One of my goals for this summer is to build a new wall unit entertainment center for my living room. Currently, our flat screen TV is sitting on an old coffee table, surrounded by the wall unit entertainment center that used to surround our old big screen projection TV (I think I may be aging myself by admitting that I had a big screen projection TV, but hey, those TVs were cool back then!)
The only redeeming quality about our current setup is that the coffee table and the surrounding entertainment center at least mostly match! They are both the same colored light oak furniture that was popular in the early 2000s, which makes it not as obvious that the TV is sitting on a coffee table… But, I really don’t like it. In our old house, our living room was fairly small so we were able to hang out TV on the wall and it didn’t look bad at all. Now, the wall our TV is on in the living room is a long wall with a tall ceiling, so the TV would look a little small and lonely hanging on the wall.
I could go purchase a new wall unit entertainment center for $2,000 or I can spend around $300 to $400 and make my own. Uh, no brainer there! I researched some designs that I liked to give me some inspiration for coming up with some plans for my own media center. Since I’m looking, I figured others may be searching for this information or inspiration as well, so I put together a roundup of 10 gorgeous DIY wood wall unit entertainment centers.
1. Pneumatic Addict
For this build, Elisha from Pneumatic Addict converted a buffet and 2 bookshelves into this beautiful entertainment center. I love the corbels she used to give this piece some character!
2. Downright Simple
For this entertainment center, the blogger at Downright Simple used three cabinets she purchased from Home Depot and added additional wood and design to create this masterpiece!:
3. Domestic Ability
The bloggers over at Domestic Ability built this baby from scratch! I love the hardware they chose and the simplicity of the look of this unit. It’s very clean-looking and I do love clean!
4. Dan Marx
This entertainment center was also built from scratch by Dan Marx. Love the clean lines and crown molding on this one!
5. Life with Fingerprints
The blogger at Life with Fingerprints drew up a sketch of the entertainment center she really wanted, and her dad built it from there. What an awesome dad! I love that this unit has doors to hide the TV if desired and has quite a few storage drawers.
6. DIY Danielle
The couple over at DIY Danielle built a beautiful built-in wall unit utilizing cabinets from Home Depot. I absolutely LOVE all the storage they have in this one! I also love the color, gorgeous!
7. Ana White
This entertainment center comes from Ana White. I absolutely love her website and the style of furniture she designs and builds. She is one of the bloggers I would read that really inspired me to give woodworking a shot. Seeing other women building wood furniture and home decor pieces really inspired me to step outside of my comfort zone and try new things, and I am so glad I did as I absolutely love the feeling of accomplishment after I have finished a project. But back to the subject at hand, I really like the look of this media center, the wood used and the stain coloring is rustic but clean and pretty at the same time.
8. JRL Woodworking:
This entertainment center was built by the husband and wife team and JRL Woodworking. I really like the beadboard backing on the bookshelves and I love how the center console of the unit really stands out and has the two smaller bookshelf sections on the side.
9. That’s My Letter
The blogger over at That’s My Letter modified plans from Ana White to build this entertainment center. I love how large this media center is, especially if your TV sits on a long open wall! Love all the storage!
10. Ana White
This is another plan from Ana White. This is one she has not yet built but has posted plans for on her website. I am loving the barn doors I see posted all over Pinterest, and the barn doors on this media center are no exception, I bet this media center would be gorgeous once built!
I hope seeing all of these DIY ideas have given you some ideas and inspiration! I know I will be keeping these in mind when I start building mine! Know of any other great DIY Wall Unit Entertainment Centers? Please direct me to them in the comments below!
