My daughter’s headbands and hair ties have been stored in a dresser drawer without any sort of organization or structure. If you have read my previous posts, you’ll know that this kind of disorganization drives me a bit crazy! (Well more crazy than I usually am anyways! :-P) So this weekend I decided to do something about it. I had some spare wood parts and boards that I have been waiting to use on something, and this past weekend I finally determined what that something should be! Here is what I created:
To create this holder, I used the following materials:
- 2 – 5×7 oval boards (from craft store)
- 1×2 board (need 26″ total)
- spare wood trim pieces (~24″ total)
- Wood finial (from craft store)
- wood glue
- nail gun and finish nails (I used Ryobi Airstrike nail gun)
- small metal hooks
First, I gathered two 5×7 oval wood craft boards that I had purchased at Hobby Lobby.
Next, I cut two 1×2 boards to 13″ each. Then using wood glue and finish nails, I attached the two 1×2 boards on top of each end of one of the oval 5×7 wood boards.
Attach the second 5×7 oval wood board to the top of the two 1×2 boards using wood glue and finish nails.
I then glued a small wood finial to the center of the top oval 5×7 board.
I measured the distance from the edge of one of the 1×2 boards to the opposite edge of the 1×2 on the opposite side, and then cut 4 trim pieces to that length. I attached the trim pieces to the 1×2 boards using wood glue and finish nails. The top trim pieces were attached 2 inches from the top of the 1×2 boards, and the bottom two trim pieces were attached 5″ below the top trim pieces. The trim pieces were attached in the same location on the front and back of the hair tie holder.
Once the holder was assembled, I sanded the entire thing and then painted it using Rustoleum Heirloom White spray paint. Once the paint had dried, I attached small screw-in hooks to each side of the hair tie holder. I attached one hook on each side of the hair tie holder to hold a comb and brush, then I attached four hooks to the front of the holder, and two to the back. Here is the finished hair tie and hairband holder:
And here is the final pics of the hair tie holder loaded up with my daughter’s hair ties, headbands, and hair brush!
Gotta love DIY organization!
