Hi my (hopefully) pinspired friends! Today I have another addition to my DIY, diamond-design, deck furniture to share with you! As you may know, I built a DIY curved floating deck earlier this summer and since then, I have been DIYing myself some furniture to allow myself to enjoy that deck. 🙂 I previously built a planter and an outdoor sofa, both with a diamond-shape design incorporated into each piece. Now, I have a super cute DIY Outdoor Coffee Table to add to the collection!
As with the sofa I built, I gave this table a white-washed, rustic shabby chic finish. Here’s the plans for this DIY Outdoor Coffee Table.

DIY Outdoor Coffee Table: Materials and Supplies
DIY Outdoor Coffee Table – Woodworking Plans
- Cut the boards for the legs: cut four 2×4 boards to 15″ in length each
2. Cut the boards for the coffee table frame:
- Cut two 2×4 boards to 40″ in length each
- Cut three 2×4 boards to 21 1/2″ in length
3. Attach two of the 21 1/2″ 2×4 boards to one of the table legs on each end using wood glue and 2 1/2″ exterior wood screws (predrill first with countersink bits).
4. Drill two 1 1/2″ pocket holes into each end of one side of each 40″ 2×4 board. Then attach to the legs using wood glue and 2 1/2″ exterior pocket hole screws.
5. Mark the center point on each of the two 40″ boards, and attach the remaining 21 1/2″ 2×4 in the center of the frame using wood glue and 2 1/2″ exterior wood screws.
6. Cut the boards for the table top
- Cut four 2×4 boards to 47 5/8″ each
- Cut four 2×6 boars to 23 3/4″ straight end to long end (with one end cut at 45 degree angle)
- Cut four 2×6 boards to 7 5/8″ x 7 5/8″ x 10 13/16″ triangles (two sides cut at 45 degree angles)
7. Drill 1 1/2″ pocket holes into the 2×6 boards following the pattern below.
8. Attach the 2×6 boards to create the diamond pattern using wood glue and 2 1/2″ exterior pocket hole screws.
9. Attach the top 2×4 and 2×6 boards to the top of the table frame using wood glue and 2 1/2″ exterior wood screws (predrill with countersink bits first), leaving a 1/4″ gap between the boards.
10. Fill all holes with wood filler and let dry completely. Then, sand the table until smooth.
11. To create the weathered, whitewashed look, I first brushed Varathane Weathered Wood Accelerator (one of my new faves!) on all boards of the table except for the diamond in the center
12. I then stained the diamond in the center with Varathane Worn Navy wood stain.
13. Once the blue stain has dried, tape off the diamond with painters tape, and apply a coat of exterior white satin finish paint. Once the paint has dried, apply three coats of exterior spar urethane and move to its attended location!
Thanks for the super informative and detailed post. You’re quite talented with woodworking.
