For this year’s birthday, my daughter decided she wanted a Trolls party, so Trolls it is! So, off to Pinterest I went in search of DIY Trolls party ideas. I found many Trolls hair headband ideas made from tulle, but I wanted something that looked like real Troll hair. So, off to the craft store I went and I found the perfect materials to make a DIY Trolls hair headband that looks like the real thing:

Here’s how I made it:
DIY Trolls Hair Headband Instructions:
Materials:
Pink craft fur | 1″ Elastic | 5/8″ Green Ribbon |
Glue Gun | Glue Sticks | Scissors |
Blue flowers | Thread | |
Instructions:
- Cut a piece of pink craft fur fabric to 14″ wide x 12″ tall

Cut a piece of pink craft fur fabric to 14″ wide x 12″ tall
2. Cut a piece of 1″ elastic to 20″ in length (or shorter or longer depending on circumference of the person’s head who will be wearing the headband).

Cut a strip of 1″ elastic to ~20″ in length
3. Thread a sewing needle with thread and sew the two ends of the elastic together.

Sew ends of elastic together.
4. Center the fabric onto the elastic (make sure the troll hair is going up):

Line the craft fur fabric up with the bottom of the elastic, centering the fur and making sure the hair is facing up.
5. Wrap the edges of the fur fabric around the elastic.

Wrap the ends of the fabric around the elastic.
6. Using a needle and thread, attach one end of the fabric fur to the elastic and tie off the thread once the fabric end is securely sewn to the elastic..

Sew one end of the fur fabric onto the elastic and tie off the thread.

Sew one end of fabric to the elastic.
7. Using a needle and thread again, loosely sew the fur material to the elastic, across the elastic. Don’t pull the thread too tight as it will need to give some when the headband is stretched over the head. Tie off the thread once the other side is reached.

Loosely sew the fur fabric to the elastic across the bottom. Tie off the thread once the other end is reached.
8. Again using a needle and thread, sew the remaining end of the fur fabric to the elastic and tie off the thread once securely sewn.

Sew the other end of the fur fabric to the elastic.
9. Flip the fabric over, the front should now look like this:
10. Cut a strip of green ribbon to 14″ (or the length of the fur across the elastic) and using a glue gun, glue the green ribbon across the bottom of the headband.

Using hot glue gun, adhere green ribbon across the bottom of the fur fabric.

11. Remove the blue flowers from your faux flower stem (I used a faux hydrangea stem) and remove the center plastic that adheres the flower to the stem.

Remove center plastic stem from flower.
12. Use glue gun to adhere three flowers to the front of the green ribbon on the headband.

Glue three blue flowers across the front of the green ribbon on the headband.
13. Next, place the headband on the head of a test subject (your child or spouse will do! 🙂 ). Using a rubber band or hair tie, create a “pony tail” with the troll hair at the top of the test subjects head, then fan out the troll hair above the rubber band. You can also use hot glue inside the ponytail section of the troll hair in order to help it keep shape. You can also use hairspray on the troll fur below the rubber band to keep it smoother (like Poppy’s hair). Here is my adorable test subject:

Place the headband on the head of your test subject, and wrap a runner band or hair tie around the troll hair just above the persons head. Fan out the troll hair above the rubber band.
I’m making several of these for the guests at my daughter’s party. Each one takes a couple hours to make, max and they look very cute on. The craft fur can be a little pricey at $20 to $25 a yard, depending on where you purchase it (I bought mine at Joanne’s Fabrics and Crafts), but you can make several headbands from one yard. I also purchased blue craft fur to make some Branch Troll Hair headbands for the boys that will be at the party. I think it will be a cute touch and will make the party so fun! These would also make a great addition to a Trolls Halloween costume! Hope this gives you some inspiration if you are having a Trolls party!
Must try this for my girls!
I’m sure they will love them! These are easy to make and the kids at my daughter’s party had a blast wearing them 🙂
